We have reached the penultimate week of the NFL 2021 regular season and with no matches on Thursday or Saturday this time around, we have a bumper Sunday of action to get stuck into which includes 14 games in the two early slots.
As ever the Sunday schedule in the UK remains the same with two matches to enjoy in full on the TV as well as all the scoring and big play updates over on Red Zone. Certain matches are also available with some of the bookmakers.
1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)
The televised game in the first kick off slot on Sunday looks like it could be a cracker of a game as two leaders in the AFC meet when the AFC North pacesetters Cincinnati Bengals host the AFC West leaders Kansas City Chiefs in a match we could well see again later in the month when the playoffs begin. The Bengals have a queue of teams behind them so they can’t afford to lose here whereas the Chiefs already have their division wrapped up so can play with a little more freedom.
There are eight other matches in this slot of games with just the one coming in the form of a divisional battle. That comes in the NFC East as the Washington Football Team look to put a spanner in the works of the playoff charge of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Buffalo Bills are in action in this time slot too and they host the Atlanta Falcons knowing they are two wins from the AFC East title. New England Patriots won’t go away though and they’ll be eager to ramp up the pressure when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Another notable match is the Baltimore Ravens hosting the Los Angeles Rams which will have huge implications on the season for the home side. Elsewhere, the Chicago Bears take on the New York Giants, the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders will look to keep up their push for an AFC wildcard spot when they meet and the New York Jets host the champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The other match sees the Tennessee Titans looking to win the AFC South division when they host a Miami Dolphins side who are surging for a wildcard spot.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)
We have another great looking match in the later slot to enjoy on the TV as the NFC East winners Dallas Cowboys take on an Arizona Cardinals side who a few weeks ago were leading the way in the NFC and now they aren’t even on top of their division after three defeats in a row. They have got a wildcard spot secured though so they can approach this match with a bit of freedom and look to end their losing run.
Four other matches take place in this slot and two of them are from the same division. There is a key match in the AFC West where the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos meet with both looking to enhance their wildcard hopes. The other comes in the NFC South where the New Orleans Saints will be sniffing some defeats elsewhere to keep their own postseason hopes alive when they take on the Carolina Panthers. The other two matches sees the San Francisco 49ers meeting the Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Detroit Lions.
Betting
I’ll take a couple of bets over the course of the afternoon. I’m not going to go massively mad because we are at that stage of the season where those who need something are a lot shorter in price or bigger in spread than those who don’t and I’m rarely one to take on that situation. I do like the Philadelphia Eagles in that circumstance though. I’ve never really been keen on the Washington Football Team and you would think any motivation to finish the season strongly went when Dallas shoved up a 50 burger on them last week and Covid means that just getting a strong side on the field is becoming an issue. That isn’t the case for the Eagles. They are still deep in the race for a wildcard in the NFC and control their own destiny but that disappears if they don’t come out on top here. Philly have got their offense going at the right time though and they get a mashed up Washington defence to go at here. Washington looked very ordinary on offense last week so I like Philadelphia to cover in that one.
The other bet I like is for the Houston Texans to cover 13.5pts. The spread is actually 12.5pts in most places but I’ll take the extra point because there isn’t a huge amount on the game for the Texans. San Francisco 49ers didn’t look like a side who would be covering 13.5 points against anyone last time out when Jimmy G decided to throw three picks in key spots in the game and now the likelihood is that he is going to be out injured so it is down to Trey Lance to keep the 49ers’ playoff hopes alive. I think the niners will be more concerned about winning the match and staying in control of their own destiny heading to next week rather than running the score up so that makes me think the Texans can stay close but this is a side who in the last six weeks have beaten the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Chargers so they shouldn’t be slept on.
