The closer to Week 8 of the NFL 2024 season comes along in the Monday Night Football as ever and this week we head to the Acrisure Stadium for the clash between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants.
The Steelers have started the season really well and will be looking for a primetime success to consolidate their start. The Giants haven’t really fully got going yet but this would be a good time to do exactly that.
Pittsburgh Steelers
This has already been a positive week for the Pittsburgh Steelers and they haven’t even played yet. They have seen their main rivals for the AFC North title, Baltimore Ravens, surprisingly turned over by the Cleveland Browns so a win for Pittsburgh here will move them further ahead of their rivals ahead of their first meeting of the campaign in a couple of weeks. That should act as plenty of inspiration for a Pittsburgh side who are beginning to look more and more like the real deal.
We knew going into the season that the Steelers defence was highly likely to stand up and be counted and that has very much been the case so far. There were more question marks over their offense but Justin Fields got them moving in a nice direction to begin with and then there were definitely good signs with Russell Wilson at quarterback last week so Pittsburgh can certainly feel good about themselves heading into this one and the important stage of the season that follows.

New York Giants
The New York Giants were expected to struggle a little this season having lost their marquee offensive player in Saquon Barkley and it is hard to argue that anything else has happened. They go into the Monday Night Football 2-5 for their season and if they don’t come out with the win here it is hard to see how the second half of their campaign is going to be remotely competitive. They are already 0-3 in the division so as it is they have their work cut out even if they can come out on top here.
The Giants offense has predictably struggled this season and while their defence has kept them in matches a lot of the time, when their offense hasn’t been able to get going it hasn’t really made much difference. That has been evident in the last two matches where they have only conceded 45 points in total but they have only put 10 points on the board in those two. An injury to their left tackle certainly isn’t helping things but this is an offense which has only scored more than 21 points once in seven games and that isn’t generally going to win many matches in this league regardless of how good the defence is.
Betting
My initial thought for betting on this match was to play the under but the line is down at 36.5 and while I would probably expect the under to come along rather than the over, it is a line that I’m not massively comfortable with getting on the under with as one defensive touchdown and we’re up against it. Of the two sides though I do think there is a lot more upside on the Pittsburgh Steelers and I’m a little surprised we have a spread of just 5.5 on the home side here.
You’ve got to think that unless the Giants can sort the blindside out for Daniel Jones here he is going to be a sitting duck to this Pittsburgh pass rush and the defence could smash this game wide open for the Steelers. The concern would be whether they themselves can put the required points on the board to cover this spread but there were plenty more positive signs in that regard last week. If Pittsburgh keep the Giants to a couple of scores or less they should have 20 points in them to cover the spread here.
