The Paris 2024 Olympics continues in the French capital on Tuesday when another 14 gold medals are up for grabs in a number of different sports while plenty of other action will take place across all the venues.
Tuesday will be a day where the focus is shared with the football and the tennis and Andy Murray will hope to extend his career a little deeper into the week while Simone Biles will be back in the gymnastics arena too.

Other Sports
We have gold medal events in nine of the sports but plenty of others will continue over the course of Tuesday including the football and the tennis which we have previewed elsewhere on the site. Other sports to continue on Tuesday include the volleyball and the beach volleyball, hockey, archery, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoe slalom, equestrian, handball, hockey, rowing, sailing, surfing and water polo while there is also a start to the BMX cycling and the 3×3 basketball on what is one of the busiest days of the Olympics so far.
Triathlon
The first event to begin on Tuesday is due to be the men’s triathlon which begins at 7am UK time although the organisers do still need to give the all-clear for the race after the open water practice has been cancelled in two successive days prior to the race because of pollution in the water. If the race does go ahead the consensus is that it will be a battle between Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde but the lack of a swim prep could bring the home contingent right into the race and the 11/1 on Pierre Le Corre interests me here.
He will know the home water a little more than those coming in from elsewhere and he arrives here off the back of a sixth placed finish in the World Triathlon Series in Cagliari in May and then third in Hamburg earlier in the month. On both occasions he led coming out of the water but got picked up on the final two disciplines but if he has a bit more of an edge in the water here with the lack of practice and a huge crowd lining the roads and the run courses it might be that he has the inspiration and incentive to stay out in front. We’ve seen a number of French athletes perform above themselves at these Games already and Le Corre could well be another at a big price.

Beach Volleyball
After a foray into the beach volleyball on Monday we are going back in with another bet in the competition on Tuesday where it is the turn of the men to shine. The bet we like comes in Pool F where it is do or die for two pairs who lost their opening match as the home pair of Youssef Krou and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat take on the Spanish partnership of Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira with the losers of this one staring down the barrel of an early exit.
Both teams lost 2-0 in their opening match although the Spanish went down to the higher ranked Dutch pair of Boermans and De Groot and put up a much better showing than the French duo did against the lower ranked American partnership of Evans and Budinger. That makes me think the Spanish can get the job done here and I’m further buoyed by the fact that these two pairings met in Vienna three weeks ago and the Spanish duo got the job done in straight sets. I think they can double down with an Olympics saving win here.
Swimming
There are three gold medals up for grabs in the pool on Tuesday evening where Great Britain are odds on favourites to make a successful defence of their 4x200m Freestyle relay gold that they won in Tokyo. With two members of their team finishing second and fourth in the individual and another member of the quartet being the gold medallist in Tokyo they look a team who are going to be hard to beat but at 2/5 I’m not interested in backing them.
Instead, I think the better bet could come in the men’s 800m Freestyle final where Daniel Wiffen has been backed into around even money after qualifying the fastest in the heats. The world champion is going to take some beating but he was only half a second ahead of Ahmed Jaouadi in the heats and the Tunisian is shaving time off his personal best like there is no tomorrow this year. He skipped the World Championship but certainly looks a contender for the gold medal. Tunisia have a rich distance event history and being based in France, Jaouadi would be a popular winner even with the home swimmer David Aubry in the race.
