Our previews of the quarter markets ahead of the PDC World Championship 2022 continues with a look at the third quarter, the section of the draw where the number two seed Peter Wright is the headline attraction.
Wright is defending his winners cheque from two years ago in this tournament so his ranking will take a significant dip with an early exit which will have Snakebite under pressure, much to the liking of the other 23 runners in this quarter.

Preview
As with the other quarters I’ve split the draw up into a red and green section so we can see how the quarter will play out. If we look at the red section first then we see we could get a repeat of the Players Championship final in the last 16 with Peter Wright and Ryan Searle expected to reach that stage. Only one leg separated them in Minehead so that would be an interesting clash assuming it happens. Damon Heta and Danny Noppert are the seeds charged with stopping it with the former never truly convincing me on TV and the latter probably just lacking that extra gear to make it through.
The green half of the draw looks much more stacked with four major tournament finalists in it among the seeded players and a couple of the stars of the pro tour from the qualifiers. Jose de Sousa will be the man expected to make the quarter final from the red section but Nathan Aspinall will have something to say about that and having twice made the semi-final here he knows how to win a quarter. Brendan Dolan arrives here in decent form but a second round clash with Callan Rydz is the draw nobody would have wanted. Mensur Suljovic is the other seed but reading his form is near enough impossible.

Peter Wright has been far too inconsistent since he won the World Matchplay for my liking and I think his section of the draw is the one to target. I’ll do it with Ryan Searle who was so close to beating Wright in Minehead and who might well be able to turn the tables on him in set play. Searle has a decent record here with R4-R3-R4 his three results in the three times he has qualified for the tournament. This is the first time he has been seeded so those results are even better.
I respect the four seeds in the green section of the draw but picking the winner of them isn’t easy because they can all be brilliant but more often they are off the top of their game. Brendan Dolan would have interested me much more than he does if he didn’t land the draw of Callan Rydz in the opening round. De Sousa and Aspinall miss too many doubles for my liking and while you could say the same for Searle, generally the deeper he goes into a tournament the better his finishing becomes. At 15/2 I think Searle is the value here.
