The Premier League weekend continues with a Super Sunday double header of action this week which sees two of the biggest teams in the league on show on a day which could be one of the most defining of the campaign to date.
Both of the matches are live on TV in the UK for us to enjoy so as Storm Bert continues to do its thing over the country there is a perfect excuse for sitting back on the couch and enjoying back-to-back Premier League games!
Southampton vs Liverpool (14.00 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The opening game of the double header on Sunday comes from St Mary’s Stadium where Liverpool have the chance to move eight points clear at the top of the table when they face a Southampton side who are rooted to the bottom of the pile.
Even with a win here, Southampton are unable to come off the foot of the table but will be five points off safety were they to lose the game. The issue the Saints have they are the lowest scorers in the Premier League with just seven from their 11 matches and their 1-1-9 record this deep into the campaign is going to need to be hugely turned around and quite quickly else they are going to be back in the Championship with plenty of the season left to play. Liverpool don’t have that problem. They can’t win the title on Sunday but a win would move them eight points clear ahead of the meeting between themselves and Man City next weekend where were they to go 11 points ahead they would have at least one hand on the crown. Six of the Liverpool wins this season have been without conceding with two of the other three being to Chelsea and Brighton – sides in the top five. Five of the nine Southampton defeats have been without them scoring and in another loss they scored five minutes into injury time. Nobody has scored fewer than Southampton and nobody has conceded fewer goals than Liverpool. The 13/10 on Liverpool to win this to nil just looks way too big to ignore.

Ipswich Town vs Manchester United (16.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Premier League)
The second match in the double header on Sunday takes us to Portman Road as Manchester United begin a new era under Ruben Amorim when they go up against an Ipswich Town side who will be looking to build on their win over Tottenham Hotspur last time out.
Ipswich picked up their first win back in the Premier League at Tottenham prior to the international break and probably didn’t want that stoppage to come but they have had a chance to dust themselves down and get ready to look to take care of another huge club. Understandably though, all eyes will be on Man Utd here to see how they look under their new boss and whether there is a bounce and just how much improvement has been made in a short space of time, despite him not really haven’t much time to work on the squad. You would expect United to be good enough to win this match but I need to take a watching brief on them before I part with any of my hard earned on them so this one is a leave alone game.
