The final match of the Premier League weekend comes from Turf Moor on Monday night when Burnley host Watford in what is a big match for both sides but particularly the hosts. Not only do Burnley not get to play on primetime very often but they go into the match in real need of a win. Watford have hit a good patch of form and will look to improve on that here.
Burnley
It was always going to be a tough return to the Premier League for Burnley and it has proved to be that way so far. They only have a win and a draw to show for their efforts from their five matches but importantly both results came here at Turf Moor and if they are to stay up then picking up consistent results at home will be vital.
Burnley have beaten high flying Liverpool on this ground already this season so they shouldn’t fear Watford in this match but you sense there is more pressure on them heading into this match as Watford are a side they might have earmarked as one they could beat when they assessed the season ahead of them.
Watford
It took the Hornets a while to get going this season but they put the international break to good use and they have come back with two wins from two since then including a win over Man Utd last Sunday so their confidence will be high as they head up to Lancashire.
If there is a concern for Watford it might be that they haven’t kept a clean sheet yet this season but then in Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham they have faced four of the best attacking networks in the country. All eyes will be on their defence to see if they can shut out this Burnley side here.
Team News
Burnley will be without their main attacking threat in Andre Gray as he begins a four match suspension for comments posted on his Twitter account. He won’t be replaced by Ashley Barnes as the forward is out with injury.
Watford will have to make changes to their back line as former Newcastle full back Daryl Janmaat is out with injury. Jose Holebas and Younes Kaboul are both doubtful so Walter Mazzarri will have to think about how he is going to set up his defence.
Betting
This is an interesting match to bet on basically because of Burnley. They have only scored goals in two of their matches this season but they have got a result in both and that suggests when they keep it tight defensively they get the results so I’m expecting them to start off looking to keep things tight at one end.
Watford have been free scoring in their last two matches but we’ve seen West Ham’s defence exposed all season and Man Utd haven’t been much better in that area of the game either so maybe their attack is overrated off the back of that. Watford also won’t have been favourites for a Premier League game on the road too often either which adds an interesting dynamic.
Given how well they play at home I wouldn’t put anyone off taking the home side here but with no Andre Gray the safer bet could well be under 2.5 goals in a game which should naturally be tight given the importance it has to both sides.
