The finals night of the Premier League Darts season takes place on Thursday when the four best players of the campaign so far head to the o2 Arena in London to battle it out on an evening where the semi-finals and the final all take place.
This is quickly becoming one of the standout nights on the darting calendar and we will preview both semi-finals here but sadly the time restrictions will deny us the chance to take a proper look at the final, although our outright bet on Jonny Clayton is still running and hopefully that will give us interest in the concluding match.
Gerwyn Price vs Jonny Clayton
The opening semi-final is the all-Welsh affair between the table topper Gerwyn Price and the man who partners him in the World Cup in Jonny Clayton, who only secured his place in the last four thanks to Price beating Nathan Aspinall last week.
Clayton will hope that he can take advantage of the favour which Price did him while the former world champion will be out to come through and not allow ‘The Ferret’ to mug him off in that way. This could be a big evening for Price as he has never won the Premier League and elite sportspeople want to win all the big tournaments in their career so this could certainly be a milestone night for ‘The Ice Man’. Clayton has won this tournament in the past so he knows what it takes to get the job done on the biggest night of the season. Price is probably a worthy favourite in this match but Clayton can certainly beat him and given that I’m on him effectively at 4/1 to win this semi-final I hope he does. These two have met five times in the Premier League this season and Price has won four of those but Clayton won the latest Players Championship event last weekend and might carry plenty of confidence into this one with him. I’ll let my outright bet ride.

Michael Smith vs Michael van Gerwen
The second semi-final of the Premier League is a repeat of the final of the World Championship as Michael Smith goes up against Michael van Gerwen for a place in the title showdown with the current world champion looking for a first Premier League title and the Dutchman looking to reclaim the crown.
Smith has grown the longer the Premier League season has gone on and finished strongly enough to pinch second spot in the table whereas the more the weeks came and went the form of van Gerwen became a little more scratchy and the big worry as far as the former Premier League winner is concerned is he had to pull out of the semi-final last week with an injury. Fair enough, that match didn’t mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things but he still had an obligation he couldn’t fulfil and I wouldn’t give MVG much of a prayer in this match if he isn’t 100%. These two have met four times in the Premier League this term and it is 2-2 so far but interestingly Smith won the latest two meetings which were both earlier this month. He also won the world final between the two and might just feel that he has the number of his rival these days. That lurking injury for van Gerwen is a big concern for me and as a result I’ll go with Smith to come through this one.
