There is Sky Bet Championship action for us to enjoy on Tuesday evening when the rearranged fixture between Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers takes place at the DW Stadium as two Lancashire sides look to bolster their league position.
Blackburn have been very hit and miss so far this season and will be looking for some consistency from here on in. Wigan can’t seem to buy a win at home which is undoing a lot of the work they are doing on their travels.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels with the build-up beginning at 7.30 and kick off coming 15 minutes later.
Wigan Athletic
I think all things being considered, Wigan Athletic have begun life back in the Championship in positive fashion and I’m sure everyone is content with their first quarter of the season but they could just do with getting that elusive first home win as the longer they go without one the more of a wrench it becomes getting it. They have drawn half of their home matches so it isn’t like they are getting beat every week but the longer they go without a home win the more the pressure builds on their away form, as we saw in midweek.
Wigan are averaging two goals against them at home and that is a concern, although it should be said that statistic is slightly skewed by the fact that they conceded five to Burnley. That match showed their vulnerability against the better sides in the division. Their four wins have all been on the road but the only top half side they have beaten were Luton and they were second best in that for 80 minutes so their record might just be padded a touch.
Blackburn Rovers
After what was a very tame second half to last season, Blackburn Rovers have started this one positively enough. They go into this match in seventh spot in the table but if they win it they will go level on points with the leaders, such is the bunched nature of the Championship once again. If there is a criticism of them this season it would be that when they are good they are very good but when they are off it they are not good at all.
That is something they will need to improve as the season goes on but they are a team that looks built to do well in this league with a couple of solid defenders, athletic wing-backs and a very good strike force. Where there is a real concern is with their manager Jon Dahl Tomasson not used to managing the relentless schedule of this division. He is going to need to get that sorted pretty quick but if he does then Rovers are in a good position to enjoy a good campaign.

Team News
Wigan Athletic boss Leam Richardson has confessed he is going to be without goalkeeper Jamie Jones for a prolonged period of time as the stopper has a cruciate ligament injury. That means Ben Amos will continue between the sticks.
Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has declared that he has a fully fit squad to choose from for this encounter. He hasn’t been shy in rotating though so the likes of Tyrhys Dolan and Bradley Dack, who both came off the bench on Saturday, could be more involved here.
Betting
This is not an easy match to predict because there is little to no consistency in either of these two sides but I often think when that is the case it is wiser to go with the better of the two teams and right now in my eyes that is Blackburn Rovers. They will have the standout player on the pitch in Ben Brereton Diaz and he’ll go into the game high on confidence after a good performance in the win over Rotherham United at the weekend.
Much has been made of the win-loss sequence of the last seven Blackburn matches, so much so that you would imagine they are fully aware of it and will be doubly motivated to put a stop to it. Wigan can’t seem to get anything going at home this term and their loss at Hull last time out was more than a little worrying, especially as they went ahead early on in the game. That defence doesn’t look as tight as I’d like it and I think Blackburn have the better of it in that department. Right now Blackburn just look a better all-round side and if there is a winner at the DW I fancy it to be them.
