A busy week of League 2 action concludes on Saturday when a third fixture list in the space of eight days takes place. This one sees all 24 sides in action in the final match before the next FA Cup break and everyone will be looking to go into that off the back of a win.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Yeovil Town
Barnet v Notts County
Blackpool v Newport County
Cambridge United v Cheltenham Town
Carlisle United v Mansfield Town
Colchester United v Crewe Alexandra
Crawley Town v Grimsby Town
Doncaster Rovers v Leyton Orient
Exeter City v Luton Town
Morecambe v Plymouth Argyle
Portsmouth v Stevenage
Wycombe Wanderers v Hartlepool United
Big Matches
The leaders Plymouth have a long journey on Saturday when they head up to Morecambe while second placed Carlisle host a Mansfield side who have immediately improved under Steve Evans. Doncaster in third take on Leyton Orient while Portsmouth take on Stevenage off the back of a fine win at Luton in midweek.
Best of the Rest
The aforementioned Luton head to Exeter for the second time in three weeks looking to back up a win there in the FA Cup. Improving Wycombe play host to inconsistent Hartlepool and Barnet, another side who are improving, welcome fast fading Notts County to The Hive.
Betting
The midweek card wasn’t nice from a betting point of view but this one is the opposite of that and as such I’m going on the attack with four bets. The main bet comes in the form of the leaders Plymouth who have won their last seven away games. Plymouth might have lost their last two matches but they have the pick-me-up they needed with a trip to a Morecambe side who looked an absolute shambles when I saw them last week. Even off the back of two defeats I’m happy to take Plymouth to win that.
I’m also going to take my own side Luton who are simply overpriced down at Exeter. They’ve already seen off Exeter this season and are the third best side in the league on their travels. Exeter in contrast have picked up just a single point at home all season and there is sorts of talk about boss Paul Tisdale and his contract. That sort of stuff is a distraction and one Luton can take advantage of.
Barnet had an excellent win at Plymouth in midweek and now they are back at home against a Notts County side who having moved into the playoff places have now gone four matches without a goal. Jon Stead still isn’t back for the Magpies so nothing is likely to change in their attack. Barnet are picking up nicely and with their goal threats they should be taken to win there.
Finally I’m going to take on a poor Crawley side with a Grimsby team who have played the top two in the last week and taken four points off them. In all Grimsby have the fifth most points in the division on the road and that bodes well for them against Crawley who have now gone six games without a win. Grimsby are flying under Marcus Bignot and can win in Sussex.
