Two more matches get underway in the County Championship on Saturday as we move into the second half of the domestic season. The race for promotion from Division 2 is really hotting up as is the title race in Division 1 not to mention the battle to avoid the drop.
There is one match in each division on Saturday with Surrey playing host to title chasing Warwickshire at Guildford in Division 1 while Sussex host Glamorgan at Hove in the second division.
Surrey vs Warwickshire
Finally the weather looks like it might be taking a turn for the better but that might not be a good thing for Surrey because you have to go right the way back to 2002 for the last time Surrey won a Championship match at Guildford.
Surrey go into the contest without some key players. Kumar Sangakkara and Ravi Rampaul are both away at the Caribbean Premier League while Jason Roy is away with England but Aaron Finch comes into the side having taken over as overseas player. Gary Wilson is left out of the side.
Warwickshire look close to full strength with the exception of Chris Woakes who is away with England and if anyone wins this match I certainly expect it to be them but at 4/6 I’m not sure there is much value on them on a ground renowned for draws.
Sussex vs Glamorgan
I was thinking about taking Sussex on in this match given that Chris Jordan is away with England and Tymal Mills doesn’t play the long form of the game but Glamorgan aren’t exactly in fantastic form in red ball cricket and the fact that Colin Ingram keeps sitting out the four day stuff doesn’t inspire much confidence.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Glamorgan do something from this match but the Ingram absence is enough to put me off backing anything here. Instead I’ll keep my money in my pocket and wait for the many opportunities to come.
