There is one more match from the Super League on Saturday afternoon which comes from the south of France as the Catalans Dragons host the champions Wigan Warriors in a pretty big match for both sides.
With Huddersfield’s win on Friday night, Wigan dropped to eighth place and need to win to keep their heads above safety while Catalans are eagerly trying to get closer to Wigan and give themselves a chance of making the top eight.
Catalans Dragons
The Dragons head into this match off the back of a much needed win last week but before we get too carried away with it they did only beat the Leigh Centurions and if we are being honest they made much harder work of it than they probably should have done but a win is a win and should build confidence.
Leigh scored 36pts in that match which isn’t a good sign for the Dragons defensively and if they are going to escape trouble and secure their Super League status, whether that is automatically or via the qualifiers, then they are going to have to do something about the number of points they concede.
Wigan Warriors
Wigan finally got over the line in the Super League again last week and they are now three matches unbeaten as momentum begins to build with the champions. The poor run they had been on prior to that though has all but scuppered any chance of Wigan defending their title at Old Trafford. They would have to sprout wings from now to do that.
That doesn’t mean that Wigan have nothing to play for. They can spoil a few parties between now and the rest of the season and build something positive to take into next season. There are also various World Cup spots to play for too as well as the Challenge Cup so I expect Wigan to stay bang at it.
Team News
Steve McNamara has something of a personnel crisis on display here. He will be without the suspended trio of Greg Bird, Ben Garcia and Fouad Yaha while Richie Myler and Mika Simon are injured.
Wigan will be without their coach Shaun Wane for this match as he has hip surgery while Joel Tomkins and Dom Manfredi are out. Taulima Tautai returns after missing a couple of matches.

Betting
I wasn’t going to bet on this match but Catalans’ absentee list has tempted me in. Wigan Warriors are starting to get their key men back on the field and their results are improving as a result and I fancy they can win here now.
Catalans are heavily depleted in all areas of the park which is less than ideal and when you consider they ship a stupid amount of points when everyone is fit that defence could be heavily exposed in this contest. With that in mind I’ll take Wigan to win and cover a converted score.
