The final three matches of the current round of Super League fixtures take place on Friday evening when the other sides from last season’s top eight play out their latest game of the season.
We have one match on the TV which has the potential to be a great game and then we will be relying on the usual methods to keep up to date with the other two matches. With the weather excellent across the country we should see some exciting rugby. We’ll kick off with the TV match.
Wigan Warriors vs Castleford Tigers
The beaten Grand Finalists of last season Castleford Tigers make the trip across the Pennines to take on a Wigan Warriors side who never even made the playoffs last term and who will be desperate to get back there this time around.
Wigan go into the match in second place in the table and they could actually go top of the pile if they win and St Helens lose elsewhere on Friday night. Castleford are fifth but with matches in hand of all the other sides in the table so if they win here they will be in a very good position.
Although Wigan have won their last three matches they made heavy weather of beating Catalans and Leeds in their latest two outings which is a concern. In contrast Castleford ruthlessly took the Dragons to the cleaners last week and the more the Tigers drift the more I think they are the value in this match. I don’t see there being much between the two but with the motivation of proving their ability against the top sides Castleford may fly out of the traps and not be caught.
Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity
The two sides who sit just above the cut off mark at the end of the first stage of the season meet at the AJ Bell Stadium as the Salford Red Devils take on Wakefield Trinity in a match which will see the winners give themselves a bit of breathing space in the race for the top eight.
Wakefield had a wonderful win last week when they turned St Helens over and that came out of the blue given that they had lost their five matches prior to that. Salford also had a useful win last weekend so both go into this with a bit of form behind them. Something tells me that Salford are value at odds against but with Wakefield winning last week I’m not sure I want to take them on so I’ll sit this one out.

St Helens vs Huddersfield Giants
The league leaders St Helens will look to get over that shock defeat to the Wakefield Trinity last weekend when they take on a Huddersfield Giants side who have shipped 97pts in their last three matches and who look to be in urgent need of some direction.
Normally I would have no problem in backing Saints for a match like this and I still expect them to win but last week’s defeat and the absences of James Roby and Mark Percival make me think that covering a four try handicap is less of a certainly. This is another that is pretty easy to sit out.
