The second round of action in the Super League continues on Saturday when there are three matches taking place both in the UK and over in France on a day where half of the competition look to build on their opening match.
Two of the three matches are live on the TV including the second terrestrial televised match in Super League history. We have to rely on the radio and social media feeds for our updates in the other one on a busy Saturday.
Hull FC vs St Helens (12.30 – Channel 4)
The opening match of the afternoon sees the champions St Helens back in action when they compete on terrestrial TV in the Super League for the first time. They make the trip to a ground where they won the Grand Final in 2020 to take on Hull FC.
Both these teams were victorious in their opening match so the early lead at the top of the table alongside Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors is at stake for the two sides here. St Helens put a real marker down for their title defence last week but Catalans Dragons beat themselves a touch so it will be interesting to see what they have here. Hull FC saw off a determined Wakefield Trinity side last week and you would imagine the confidence of that will lead to a natural improvement from them here. I expect Saints will win here but covering a dozen points is less certain so I’ll give this one the slip.

Huddersfield Giants vs Hull KR (15.00)
The second match of the day will see our two pre-season title picks battling it out when the Huddersfield Giants will look to build on their opening win when they play their first home game of the campaign against Hull KR.
Hull KR were quite disappointing against the Wigan Warriors last week and while that loss doesn’t look as bad after Wigan won again on Friday night, they will want a dramatic improvement on that not just for this match but for the remainder of the season. Huddersfield eased past Toulouse Olympique last weekend but quite what they beat there remains to be seen. I’m not going to write off Hull KR on the back of one bad showing and I’m no more caught up on Huddersfield after one good one. I’ll sit this out and see what we’ve got in terms of title potential here.
Catalans Dragons vs Wakefield Trinity (17.00 – Sky Sports Arena)
The final match of a really good looking day in the competition sees the Catalans Dragons looking to get off the mark for the new season when they play their first home match since losing the Grand Final last season. Wakefield Trinity will be their opponents.
Both these sides were beaten in their opening match last week so they will be eager to find a victory which will get them up and running for their season. The Dragons probably won’t be too disheartened to lose to St Helens but will be concerned that they beat themselves with some ill-discipline and that has proved costly as they will be without Gil Dudson for this one with suspension. Wakefield battled hard against Hull FC last week but couldn’t quite force the advantage to get in front in a tight match but they showed enough on both sides of the ball to suggest they’ll be competitive. I don’t expect them to win this match but I see no reason why they can’t remain within a rather large looking 24 point handicap for this stage of the season.
