T20 World Cup 2021 – Top Tournament Batsman Tips and Betting Preview

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021 beginning on Sunday we have enough time to go through a couple of other outright markets for the tournament with the top batsman very much one which we need to focus on.

Many of the best batters in the world are on show throughout the course of this tournament, each looking to be the leading run scorer in an event in which every team on show plays at last three matches but could play as many as 10 which gives us enough of a period for the cream to rise to the top.

Profile

When you get involved in a market like this in any tournament the first thing we have to do is work out where to target. There are 16 teams in the event, each with seven genuine batters in their team but we can’t be betting in a field of 112 so we need to apply some filters to have a more select number to go at.

The first of those filters comes in batting position. I don’t think you want anyone who bats lower than number four for their respective team although the higher up the player bats the better because we saw in the IPL that some of these tracks are very much new ball wickets. The other thing you have to take is a player who is good at playing spin and lower conditions. All these wickets will turn over the course of the tournament and there isn’t a whole lot of bounce in any of them.

Market

The other thing you need to understand is the market you are betting on. Most of the bookmakers have their market covering the whole tournament which means that runs scored in round one count. That is why you’ll see Sri Lanka and Bangladesh players shorter than they might normally be, however should no team who plays in the first round make the semi-final then they will only have one extra match on the two sides who make the final so that early advantage might not be that significant.

Betting

When I apply those filters I get a couple of bets that I like the look of. The first of those is Glenn Maxwell who had a brilliant IPL campaign in the UAE and who could be a big player for Australia. At worst he’ll bat at four in this tournament but it might be that he opens the batting like he has done in Asia before, especially with Dave Warner seemingly out of nick. I think we’ll see a few teams looking to get their power players up at the top of the order and if Maxwell was to open he’d have the time to get himself in before going mental against the spinners. If he bats at four he can still smack the spinners to all parts so at 40/1 I think there is a bit of mileage in the Australian.

At almost four times the price I’ll take a chance on Roston Chase delivering the goods. I don’t know how well West Indies will go but I know Chase is a key man for them as he’ll be the glue the power hitters all bat around like Marlon Samuels was when they won the tournament five years ago. Chase goes into the tournament off the back of top scoring in the entire season of the CPL recently. He showed there that he can play the rebuild innings and the big hitting one so he could be a key player on pitches which won’t be too different to the ones he went well on in St Kitts. At a monster 150/1 I’ll pay to see how he goes in this event.
