The second day of the UK sees the fifth and sixth round of the tournament being played out at Butlins in Minehead as the ‘FA Cup of Darts’ embarks on a busy middle day of the event after which we will know the quarter final schedule.
The last 32 of the tournament will be played out across four boards in the afternoon session and then the evening will contain the last 16 matches which will be played on two boards. Time restrictions will stop us previewing the last 16 but we’ll go through the last 32 here.
Main Stage
Two class acts will open up the show on the Main Stage when the Players Championship Finals runner up Ryan Searle meets the former World Matchplay champion Dimitri Van den Bergh in a tasty opener before the heavy hitters come to the fore. Michael van Gerwen is up second in the afternoon. He has a tricky assignment against Damon Heta while Peter Wright takes on the other Australian remaining in the event in Simon Whitlock in the third game. The main stage action concludes with Jamie Hughes going up against Gerwyn Price.
Stage Two
Danny Noppert will be looking to make progress in the first match over on Stage Two on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchman will have to overcome the South African star Devon Petersen who looks to be coming back to form. Talking of form, the world finalist Michael Smith is up in the second match of the night. He faces off against Gabriel Clemens before arguably the tie of the round takes place when Jonny Clayton meets Jose de Sousa. The action on this board ends with James Wade continuing his title defence against Ron Meulenkamp, who could be dangerous if he is allowed to be.

Stage Three
One of our remaining outright bets gets us off and running over on Stage Three when Dave Chisnall takes on the big Croatian player Boris Krcmar. The entertaining Dirk van Duijvenbode is second on this stage. He has a meeting with Martin Schindler before two rising stars collide in game three. That sees Niels Zonneveld taking on Keane Barry. Two class acts conclude the action in this part of Minehead when the World Championship quarter finalist Callan Rydz meets the veteran Vincent van der Voort who has made a decent start to 2022.
Stage Four
Last but not least we have Stage Four where a former Lakeside champion gets the show up and running as Scott Waites takes on the rapid Ricky Evans. When they are done there is an all-European clash between Mensur Suljovic and Geert Nentjes in what will be a clash of styles. Ian White then looks to make progress when he meets the underrated Polish player Sebastian Bialecki. The last match on this stage sees William O’Connor going up against another of our pre-tournament picks in the shape of Stephen Bunting.
Betting
I’ll go with the one bet over the course of these matches and hope that my three remaining outrights make it through elsewhere. The match I like is the last one onto Stage Three where Vincent van der Voort takes on Callan Rydz. Rydz made a name for himself at the World Championship if you hadn’t already heard of him prior to that, but 2022 hasn’t been quite as good for him. He won two matches in the first four Players Championship events and fell over the line against Nathan Aspinall in his first match here.
That is in stark contrast to Van der Voort who has made the last 32 of the latest two Players Championship events and went well on the European Tour last weekend. He also powered to a victory in the previous round here where he scored much better than Rydz did and finished better too. These outside boards suit van der Voort and when you throw into the mix that he won their only previous meeting late last year, the Dutchman looks overpriced to me here.
