US Open Tennis – Day 7 Betting Preview

The first week of the US Open concludes on Sunday as the last 16 begins on both the men’s and women’s draw and by the end of another lengthy day we will have half of the quarter draws decided.

Many of the favourites for the respective titles come out to play on Sunday and the schedules on the two main courts should provide us with plenty of entertainment on what should be a wonderful middle Sunday in the tournament.

Arthur Ashe Stadium

Britain’s Jo Konta gets the action underway on this court when she goes up against the giant killing Anastasija Sevstova before Madison Keys takes on Caroline Wozniacki in what looks like an appealing match up. Rafael Nadal and Lucas Pouille conclude the day session.

An excellent night session is planned too with Petra Kvitova taking on Angelique Kerber in the ladies match of the day while Novak Djokovic continues his title defence after that when he takes on Britain’s Kyle Edmund.

Louis Armstrong Stadium

The first match on a relatively quiet day on Louis Armstrong is the match between Roberta Vinci and Lesia Tsurenko and then I’m sure there will be a huge crowd in for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against Jack Sock. Doubles matches follow those two games on the second court.

Grandstand

There is just the one singles match on this court on Sunday and it sees Gael Monfils taking on Marcos Baghdatis in what could turn out to be the most entertaining match of the day. Plenty of good quality doubles follows those two on the court including Martina Hingis.

Betting

Saturday went against us betting wise with Joao Sousa unable to build on a break in the fourth set and failing to cover his handicap and no joy for us in the women’s match either but a minor setback isn’t a big issue if we can make up for it on Sunday and I’m going to try and do that with three bets.

The first bet comes in the Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Jack Sock match. With this match being on the faster Armstrong court I fancy it to be quite close. Sock’s serve and forehand will really come into play while Tsonga’s movement should see him cover the court nicely and in the end I think this one could turn out to be similar in style to the Tsonga vs John Isner match which took place at Wimbledon this year.

That went the distance and this one easily could too but even four sets should be enough to cover a 40.5 games line with breaks of serve likely to be at a premium. On this court especially I’m happy to go over there.

We move to the night session for our final two bets with the first one siding with an Angelique Kerber who just looks amazing right now. She is hitting the ball so clean and so powerfully and isn’t making many errors and I expect that power and precision to expose Kvitova’s lack of movement.

Kvitova can always rely on her serve to keep her relatively competitive but I think Kerber is putting a bit of a gulf between her and everyone else apart from Serena Williams and I expect her to show that here with a straight sets win. I’ll take her to win in straight sets rather than the handicap in case Kvitova forces a tiebreak somewhere.

Finally I think there could be more mileage in the Novak Djokovic vs Kyle Edmund match than the odds suggest. Edmund plays a similar game to Jerzy Janowicz, the only other man that Djokovic has faced in full in this tournament and the Pole won a set from him and had chances to win others.

Edmund is serving really well at the minute and his forehand is the sort of weapon that the world number one has struggled against in the last couple of months or so. Djokovic should still have enough about him to come through if he is fully fit but with the fitness doubts hanging over him too that only furthers my belief that we might see at least a fourth set in this one.
