The second European Tour event of the season takes place over the remainder of the Easter period where the leading players on the PDC circuit once again head to Germany for the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich.
Michael van Gerwen won the tournament last week and will be eyeing up a quick double but those looking to deny him are of good quality so we should be in for an excellent weekend with the 2018 tour in full swing now.

2017 – Michael van Gerwen
The Format
The format remains the same as last week with the last 32 taking place over two sessions on Sunday and the remainder of the tournament being played on Monday. The tournament up until the semi-finals are the best of 11 legs with the semis up to the best of 13 legs before the champion is crowned over the best of 15 legs.
Top Half
The halves have switched this weekend which means that it is Peter Wright who is the leading seed in the top half of the draw in Munich. Michael Smith is the next seed numerically with the others being much the same as last week. That means Mensur Suljovic, Jelle Klaasen, Kim Huybrechts, Joe Cullen, Mervyn King and Kyle Anderson are the other seeds.
James Wade is the pick of the qualifiers who have made it through in this section. Chris Dobey and Danny Noppert are two other high profile qualifiers with the others being Max Hopp, Yordi Meeuwisse, Steve West, Jermaine Wattimena and Josh Payne.
Bottom Half
That means that Michael van Gerwen is the main man in the bottom half of the draw but as with last week the defending champion may not have it all his own way given the quality that is up against him. The world champion Rob Cross is in this half as is Daryl Gurney with the other seeds being Simon Whitlock, Dave Chisnall, Gerwyn Price, Ian White and Alan Norris.
Former world champion Stephen Bunting is the leading qualifier in this section of the draw. Jonny Clayton is another eye catching qualifier with the others being Luke Humphries, Ryan Meikle, Keegan Brown, Darren Webster, Steve Lennon and Toni Alcinas.

Betting
The market for this tournament is much wiser than last weekend where there were a few anomalies so getting stuck into the outright betting is not all that easy, certainly from a value seeking point of view. There is one player I like who I will back but I will largely keep my powder dry for the match betting aside from that.
James Wade made the semi-finals last weekend averaging in the high 90s or better in each match that he played and he has already put in a solid performance in this tournament on Friday to make it through. That run to the last four was the second weekend in a row he’s made a semi-final so he’s clearly in good touch. He has the same draw this weekend as he had last weekend so at 33/1 I’ll back him to see if he can go at least one step further.
