The final event on the European Tour really kicks into life on Saturday when the seeded players join those who came through on Friday for the last 32 of the International Darts Open, on a day which is going to be big for a lot of players.
This is a day where those who aren’t yet in the European Championship next week can give themselves every chance of doing so while those who are currently in that tournament need to keep winning to keep hold of their place.
Afternoon Session
The day begins with a close looking match up between Jamie Hughes and Steve West with both players looking for a big weekend. Two more men who will be eyeing up a decent run in this tournament are on show in the second match of the day when Danny Noppert takes on the seeded star Adrian Lewis. The first really appealing match of the afternoon comes in the third game when Michael Smith takes on the home player Martin Schindler before we reach the interval with Joe Cullen going up against Robert Marijanovic.
The second half of the afternoon gets going with Daryl Gurney looking to book a spot in the tournament next week when he meets Scott Baker before Dave Chisnall takes on Ron Meulenkamp in what promises to be a tasty contest. James Wade will then look to book his spot in the last 16 in the penultimate match of the session when he faces Andreas Harrysson before the afternoon concludes with the former world champion Rob Cross up against the surprise home qualifier Franz Rotzsch.

Evening Session
The evening session begins with what should be a decent match between Krzysztof Ratajski and Martijn Kleermaker, two of the better players in Europe at present, before a couple of English players battle it out when Stephen Bunting takes on Andy Hamilton. They are followed by another couple of English players when Nathan Aspinall goes up against Jason Lowe for a place in the last 16. We then hit the interval with two more of the best from Europe on show when Mensur Suljovic faces off against Gabriel Clemens.
The best player in the world brings us out of the interval as Michael van Gerwen meets Madars Razma in what is an extremely tough assignment for the Latvian before Gerwyn Price goes up against the man who averaged 113 in victory on Friday in Ross Smith. Jose de Sousa begins his quest for a second straight European Tour title in the penultimate match of the evening when he meets the home star Max Hopp before the action concludes with Ian White facing off against Jesus Noguera.
Betting
There is just the one bet which interests me over the course of the day on Saturday and it comes midway through the evening session when Gabriel Clemens takes on Mensur Suljovic in a match where the German might just be overpriced to come through at 6/5. I say that for a couple of reasons although primarily because these are two pretty evenly matched players so the advantage of having had a match on the stage is likely to be significant for Clemens.
There are a lot of players in the world of darts who hate playing Suljovic because of the lack of rhythm that he offers but Clemens doesn’t appear to be one of them. Of their three recent meetings he has won two of them and only lost the other in a deciding leg so he enjoys the challenge the Austrian brings. Those wins have been a pretty wide margin too so with good form behind him I’m happy to take Clemens to win this one.
