2020 Modus Icons of Darts – Tuesday 7th July Group 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The latest week of the Icons of Darts concludes on Tuesday when the second pool of players have their only outing of the week as the competition hits a little break to allow the PDC Summer Series to be played.

We saw a good group of action on Monday and I think it is fair to say we have a better line up on show on Tuesday, so that should in turn mean that we get an even better group with a higher quality to end the week with.

The Format

Each day from Monday to Saturday six players will battle it out for a daily title. There are two pools of players, one which plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other which toe the oche on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each day the six players will play each other once over the best of nine legs with two points for a win. The daily winner is the player with the most points. If players are level on points it is determined on leg difference and then the record between the two. The entire event can be watched on various bookmaker websites, dartshop.tv or the Modus YouTube channel.

Monday Recap

We saw some decent darts on Monday and it was a day which was dominated by Scott Marsh, as he won all five matches to come out on top on what will be his only appearance this week. He finished ahead of Jarred Cole by a single win, with two 5-0 wins not good enough for Cole to come out on top courtesy of the dominance of Marsh. Keelan Kay had one of his better outings with three wins to his name while there were a pair of victories for Diogo Portela. Adam HUckvale earned a single win but Dave Parletti had nothing to show for his exploits.

There was a small win on the day for us as Scott Marsh did enough of a job on Dave Parletti to give us some profit. We needed him to win the match by two or more legs and he won 5-3 so he did exactly what was required of him. Unfortunately he maintained his good form to be the only man to beat Jarred Cole and deny the latter of the group win so what could have been a brilliant day was just an ok one.

Tuesday Line Up

Six more players take to their home oches on Tuesday in a bid to win the last daily title of the week. David Evans is the favourite to seal yet another daily success, something that is becoming a bit of a regular thing for him, but Ritchie Edhouse has the potential to be dangerous and shouldn’t necessarily be ruled out. Andy Jenkins has been winning titles in recent times too and he will also fancy his chances of coming out on top over the course of the day.

Mark Webster hasn’t really been at the races in the last couple of weeks but he has one chance to come good this week. Stephen Burton looked to be building up into some good form before he was given last week off so it will be interesting to see what he can offer throughout the day while John Brown will be looking to show that he can be competitive from a results point of view at this level.

Outright Betting

I was happy to commit to the group winner market on Monday but I’m more reluctant to on Tuesday. I think David Evans is a worthy favourite to top the pile but he is plenty short enough with the quality that is in around him over the course of the day. In my eyes there are three genuine contenders for the title with Ritchie Edhouse and Andy Jenkins having every chance should Evans not be on top form.

In saying that, I do think Evans is the one to beat and if he plays well he’ll top the table but the price is probably only about right rather than being anything special. Of the other three, Stephen Burton is good enough to get himself in the mix but the week off that he has had has generally been a negative. If I could get slightly bigger on Jenkins I might have convinced myself to pull the trigger but I can’t so I’ll leave it alone.

Match Betting

There isn’t a whole lot I like in the match betting on Tuesday either I have to say but there is one which jumps out at me. That comes midway through the day as Mark Webster takes on Stephen Burton in a match that the 4/5 on Webster to win looks more than fair enough. These two have met six times in the Icons of Darts and Webster has actually won the whole lot so there is something about facing the former world champion that Burton doesn’t enjoy.

I suspect it is the more reliable finishing of the Welshman, particularly in those combinations when you only get one dart at a double. Webster hasn’t been on top form for a while but there were signs on Saturday that there is life again. He won his first three matches in a very competitive group but couldn’t quite get it done in the last two. Nevertheless, that was progress and the confidence he can take from that can guide him to a win over a man who he has the Indian sign over.
