The Copa America continues with another double header on Monday evening and there are two excellent matches on show beginning with the former winners meeting in Cuiaba when Uruguay go up against Chile.
There is bags of experience in both these squads so this might turn into something of a tactical affair but with Argentina out of the way for both, there is a sense that they can get to work in this group from here on in.
Uruguay
Uruguay have only actually played one match in the tournament which was against Argentina where I think it is fair to say they will be hoping that they are going to improve the longer the competition goes on and they are going to need to. Nothing really clicked for them in the attacking areas, which is a surprise really when you consider how long Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have been permanent fixtures in this Uruguayan side.
The positive is that despite their many years in their defensive unit, by and large they kept Lionel Messi and co to a minimum in terms of chances and having got that match out of the way they now have the chance to pick up the points they require against opponents more on a par with them or even inferior to them. You could say that their tournament really starts here even though they were up to speed after the World Cup qualifiers.
Chile
Chile have played two matches in the tournament to date and picked up four points which is a decent enough return. If they can get anything from this one then they will be in a very good position not just to qualify, which looks like a certainty from this position, but to do so high up in the group table and therefore avoiding one of the better sides from Group B in the quarter final, which has to be their aim from here on in.
There has been good and bad from Chile in this tournament so far. I don’t think we’ve seen what we would have expected to see from them in the attacking areas of the pitch just yet but we know from previous campaigns that when they do click we will be impressed with what we see. Where they have shown something is at the back where apart from a world class free kick by Lionel Messi they haven’t conceded and will be looking to keep that defensive stability in place.

Team News
Uruguay might decide to change things around in the centre of the park here to get themselves further up the pitch. That might mean that Lucas Torreira makes way. It remains to be seen whether Diego Godin can play four matches in a short space of time too.
Chile chose to bring Ben Brereton in from the start in the previous game and were immediately rewarded for that. It remains to be seen whether he has done enough to keep his place but with Alexis Sanchez not around yet the former Arsenal man isn’t an option here.
Betting
I’m starting to be worried about Uruguay. They haven’t scored in four games now and although two of those were against Brazil and Argentina where you probably wouldn’t expect them to score, the other two were against Venezuela and Paraguay where you would, even allowing for the fact that Edinson Cavani was suspended during that time. They have a very potent front two but for whatever reason it isn’t really happening for Uruguay.
Chile haven’t been massively more threatening offensively but at least they have a style on the counter attack which allows them to be dangerous, especially against a side who have few legs in defence. This Chile attacking unit should be licking their lips at going up against this Uruguay side and if they can get the ball to Brereton, Vargas, Vidal et al in dangerous areas then Chile could well be in business. If there is a winner in this match I fancy it might well be Chile.
