Preview

The main TV cameras head to the Bet365 Stadium for a match which is going to have big implications for both of the teams involved when Stoke City look to ease their relegation concerns when they welcome Blackburn Rovers to Staffordshire with the visitors looking to move to within a point of the play-offs once again with a win. Leeds United were overtaken at the top on Wednesday night but they will go back to the summit if they avoid defeat at home to Millwall but the Whites will be keen to beat a side who are just playing out the season now.

At the bottom end of the table there are a couple of huge matches. Plymouth Argyle have found themselves cut adrift at the foot of the table and they really need a win away to Portsmouth to latch onto the coattails of those above them. Hull City and Oxford United currently have a few teams between them and the bottom three but when they meet the winners can take a big step towards safety. The other match looks a bit of a mid-table affair when Watford host Swansea City.

Betting

There isn’t too much I like on Wednesday night after the wipeout I had on Tuesday evening but I saw Plymouth Argyle three weeks ago and I thought to myself then I would be surprised if there is a worse team in the division than them and while Cardiff City and Luton Town tested that theory when I watched them on Tuesday evening, I still don’t believe they were quite as bad as Plymouth and when you factor in that Portsmouth have just beaten Leeds I’ve got to think the home side are good things here.

Portsmouth have an incredibly good home record in recent times for a team in their position. They are 7-1-1 in their last nine matches at Fratton Park whereas Plymouth head to Hampshire without an away win all season and only six goals in the 18 games that they have played. They look out of their depth to me so I’m expecting a home win here. I don’t really like betting short prices in this division though so I’m going to add over 1.5 goals into the equation too. Six of those seven wins have had more than 1.5 goals in it with the exception being the Leeds game on Sunday which is a different beast to this one. Plymouth have shipped 42 goals in 18 away games this season so Portsmouth could easily win this 2-0 even if the Pilgrims don’t score.

Tips

Back Portsmouth to beat Plymouth and over 1.5 goals for a 3/10 stake at 2.10 with William Hill
