The first T20 between India and Sri Lanka was washed out on Sunday so the two sides will be trying again when they get set to do battle in Indore on Tuesday. They do so knowing that whoever comes out on top will be guaranteed a share of the series.
Whoever loses this one will have to win the final game on Friday in order to come out with a piece of the spoils but this one is nicely set up for a competitive game of cricket between two nations who have had their fair share of battles down the years.
India
The Indians have been in decent enough nick for a while now, even in this format which is not historically their best. They have slipped up in matches in this format in recent series which would be a concern but they look to be ticking along nicely as they continue to build up to the World T20 down in Australia later in the year. If they can come out on top in this series that will just be another confidence boost for them.
There has been a noticeable change in the structure of the Indian side in recent time, with an emphasis on all-rounders seemingly in fashion for them. That would probably serve them well when they get to Australia for the World T20 as batting depth is probably going to be vital on the good wickets down there. It will be interesting to see how they utilise their bowlers both in terms of when they bowl and which options they go with.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka were on a good little run in this format after four successive wins over New Zealand and Pakistan but that came to a shuddering halt when they were trounced in three straight matches in Australia. To be fair to them conditions were not suitable for them out there, so this could be a different ball game for them entirely, but they will certainly need to up their game from those efforts if they are to take this series.
Once upon a time Sri Lanka were strong with the ball in this format but not quite so with the bat, but things have gone full circle now and it is actually their batting that is probably their strongest suit and they struggle to get through the 20 overs with their best bowlers on show. Given that this is just a two match series Sri Lanka have free rein to go out and attempt to give of their best here knowing they are still alive whatever happens.
Team News
India were going to give Jasprit Bumrah his return in the first match before it was washed out so he is likely to come back from injury here. Rohit Sharma is being rested to Shikhar Dhawan will come in to open while Ravi Jadeja is expected to play too.
Angelo Mathews is back in the T20 squad for Sri Lanka while captain Lasith Malinga has hinted the Niroshan Dickwella and Kusal Mendis will not feature in the game. That means Danushka Gunathilaka and Oshada Fernando will open the batting.
Betting
We know from when the Kings XI Punjab play their IPL matches here at Indore that this is a tiny ground and doesn’t take a lot for the boundaries to be cleared and I expect that to happen quite a few times in this match. It is the reason why I am going to focus on a side market rather than worry about who might be batting second and given themselves the best chance of winning the match.
Depending on where you shop for this match you can get a sixes line as low as 11.5 or as high as 14.5 and given that I am going to take the over it is the former that I want to get stuck into. These two sides might lack a genuine hitter with the exception of Rishabh Pant, but these ropes don’t need the biggest hitters to clear them. I think this will be a tough day for the bowlers and although Sri Lanka got taken apart in Australia, they still cleared the ropes a few times. That encourages me to take over 11.5 sixes here.
