The next MLS weekend kicks off on Saturday evening when eight matches take place across America and Canada in the latest round of fixtures. There are some tasty tussles among them which could have big implications on both Conferences which adds to the intrigue.
We have one match on TV for those of us who enjoy this league in the UK and the others are available on a number of streaming services so there is no excuse not to keep up with one of the best competitions in the game.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)
Montreal Impact vs Atlanta United (00.00)
New York Red Bulls vs Columbus Crew (00.00)
Toronto FC vs Chicago Fire (00.00)
DC United vs Colorado Rapids (01.00)
Sporting Kansas City vs FC Dallas (02.00)
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Minnesota United (03.00)
San Jose Earthquakes vs Real Salt Lake (03.30)
Portland Timbers vs Houston Dynamo (04.00)
Big Matches
The TV game is the one from BMO Field where Toronto FC and Chicago Fire will look to launch a charge at the play-offs in the Eastern Conference. The other big match of the evening comes from Kansas as two of the top three in the Western Conference meet as Sporting Kansas City hosts the leaders FC Dallas in a match which could very well be the Championship game later in the campaign.
Best of the Rest
Two sides looking for the postseason and even a bye in the first round of it collide at Red Bull Arena when the New York Red Bulls host the Columbus Crew while the leaders in the East, Atlanta United, head across the border to face Montreal Impact. There should be plenty of entertainment at Providence Park when the Portland Timbers host the Houston Dynamo. Wayne Rooney plays in front of his new home fans once again when DC United host Colorado Rapids in a meeting of two sides who are struggling in their Conferences.

Betting
I like three bets over the course of the night here. In the TV match I’m expecting the goals to flow now that Jozy Altidore is back for Toronto FC. They actually won in Chicago just last weekend 2-1 and I’m expecting even more goals here as both really need to win the match if they are to keep clinging to the coattails of the top six in the East. Chicago Fire have goals in them but they are very exposed at the back and whether Toronto have to score the lot or Chicago contribute to the scoring I think we’ll see over 3.25 goals land.
In the Western Conference I’m expecting Vancouver Whitecaps to do the business against Minnesota United. I always say that Vancouver are a different beast when Kei Kamara is involved and he will feature here. Minnesota are terrible on the road. They have one win in nine matches and have lost the other eight. They have shipped three or more in four of their last five away games too. All eyes will be on Alphonso Davies here after his big move in midweek. I expect him to put on a show and if he does the Whitecaps will and they’ll cover their Asian line.
Finally it almost looks like a penalty kick for goals when Portland Timbers host the Houston Dynamo. I repeatedly say that Houston take the game to their opposition whether it is at home or away and with a defensive midfielder and a defender suspended for this match I wonder if attack will be the only form of defensive for the Dynamo. That won’t hurt Portland who ooze class going forward but can be suspect at the back. Over 3 should safely land here.
