Christmas is approaching and we are getting near to the end of the regular season in the NFL which means we get some bonus Saturday Night Football which this week sees us having a double header, which begins with the Houston Texans travelling to the New York Jets.
This is clearly a much bigger match for the Texans than it is for the Jets. A couple of weeks ago Houston were cruising towards the AFC South title but defeat to Indianapolis last week has thrown it wide open. The Jets are playing for a high draft pick.
New York Jets
It was always going to be something of a development year for the New York Jets with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold becoming their starter and a shift in direction at the beginning of the campaign but to be 4-9 for the season probably still wasn’t in their plans. We should probably expect them to come good next year but these last three games could still be vital for Darnold and his development.
Under the hit and miss rookie the Jets just haven’t been able to find any consistency whatsoever and with their defence not delivering what it has done in past years it has been an all-round struggle. They did win for the first time in five matches last week however so they will be hoping to use that positivity for a second successive victory here.
Houston Texans
Just when everything was going well for the Houston Texans, they were top of the division and seemingly cruising into the postseason with a nine match winning run to their name, they came crashing down with a disappointing divisional defeat to the Indianapolis Colts last week and need to get back to winning ways quickly here.
They should have the ideal chance to do it as well because the Jets are shipping well over 20pts per match and the Texans elite pass rush will have their eyes lit up at the thought of going after a rookie quarterback who has been prone to errors throughout the campaign. With DeShaun Watson, Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins around the Texans should believe they can win here.

Betting
I’m surprised the Houston Texans are only giving up 6.5pts in this encounter given that there is a real potential for the New York Jets to stumble in this match. I know Houston are on the road but they manage to get the job done and the longer the game goes on the further clear I see the Texans getting.
DeShaun Watson and his team will be eager to get back on track here and with the obvious potential of a defensive score or two from the Texans as well I think when the final scores are tallied up here, Houston will have covered a touchdown at the very least and probably a little bit more on top of that too.
