Premier League 2021-22 – Sunday 31st October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend continues on Sunday afternoon when two more matches are played out on what promises to be a competitive day of action as four sides who perhaps don’t get as much of the limelight as they should get their chance to shine.

The first match will see the bottom part of the table in the spotlight whereas the second one will carry the focus on the higher part of it on what might just be a significant afternoon in the top flight campaign.

Where to watch

The two matches form the Super Sunday programme which will be shown in full on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League channels. The show begins at 1pm with the matches kicking off at 2pm and 4.30pm.

Norwich City vs Leeds United (14.00)

Two sides in the bottom three in the Premier League table meet in a match which isn’t do or die or anything like that but is certainly one where the losers will find themselves under huge pressure for the next week or so.

Norwich City go into the match without a win all season. You’d like to argue their case for at least being competitive in those matches but you can’t really given they come in here off the back of a 7-0 wipeout at the hands of Chelsea. The one crumb of comfort is defeats like that usually send a shockwave through a dressing room and force a good performance next time out. Leeds have been better this term but look like a struggling side. Injuries are a huge part of that but even before injuries hit I was getting a sense that they had been found out a little. You sense for their confidence they have to win this match.

I’m not going to get involved in the outcome of this match. I have a hunch that Norwich will cause the upset here but I will take one bet because I can’t ignore the 3/1 on Raphinha to find the net anytime. Teams get in behind the Norwich full-backs at will and the movement of Raphinha is more than capable of doing that. Even if it doesn’t get him in front of goal he’ll probably be on penalties with Bamford still missing and one of those wouldn’t be a surprise. That 3/1 looks enormous.

Aston Villa vs West Ham United (16.30)

The second match of the afternoon sees two sides who had good seasons last term battling it out when Aston Villa, who are struggling much more this season, take on West Ham United who have picked up where they left off in the previous campaign.

Villa go into this match having lost their last three matches whereas West Ham have won three of their last four in the Premier League and buoyed by knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup in midweek so in terms of form this one could be one way traffic. I’m conscious though that there has to be more in this Villa side. It might not come here because it is likely to come when Dean Smith switches back to the system which served them so well last year but it will come at some point so value in West Ham might not get rewarded.

Aston Villa looked horrendous defending crosses here two weeks ago against Wolves, who are hardly the biggest side and certainly nowhere near as big as West Ham, so I’m going to target that angle with a couple of bets here. The fact that most of the crosses from the Hammers comes from the left foot of Aaron Cresswell makes the 9/2 on him having an assist look huge. It was his corner which set the winner against Tottenham up last week and he’ll be on all set plays which helps. He also gets forward in open play so I like his assist chances. It might be that on the end of one of those crosses is Tomas Soucek. Thomas Partey scored against Villa last week and he doesn’t have the aerial prowess that the Czech star has. Unlike Partey, Soucek won’t just be in the box from set plays, he’ll get there from open play so the standout 15/4 on a goal anytime looks big here.
