We are closing in on the break for the World Cup in the Premier League but there are still three rounds of matches before the pause, the first of which gets underway with eight matches taking place on Saturday afternoon and evening.
This is a bumper day of action and as such we have an extra TV game to enjoy throughout the course of the day. That means three of the eight are live on TV and the other five will have regular updates in all the usual places.
Early Kick Off
The action gets underway with the lunchtime kick off as always. This week the champions will be the centre of attention as Manchester City look to hit the top of the table for the first time this season. They make the trip to the King Power Stadium to face a Leicester City side who are looking for a hat trick of wins as they bid to put a horror first quarter of the campaign behind them. Matches between these two are usually high scoring so this should be a good way to start the day.
3pm Matches
Tottenham Hotspur are the highest placed side in action in the five 3pm matches on Saturday afternoon. After two defeats in a row in the Premier League and a disappointing draw in the Champions League in between, they will look to get back to winning ways when they head to the Vitality Stadium to take on AFC Bournemouth. Newcastle United will be looking to solidify their top four credentials when they welcome Aston Villa, who will be playing their final game before Unai Emery takes over.
Another focus of attention will be the Amex Stadium where Graham Potter returns with his Chelsea side for the first time since he left as the manager of Brighton and Hove Albion. It will be interesting to see the reception he receives from the home faithful. The other two matches are more relevant to the bottom end of the table as opposed to the top. Brentford will look to bounce back from their 4-0 mauling by Aston Villa last week when they host another side who were drubbed 4-0 in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Crystal Palace play host to Southampton at Selhurst Park.

Late Games
We have two late matches this week with both of them being available for us to watch on the TV. The first of those sees Fulham looking to build on their win over Leeds United last weekend. They play host to Everton who themselves had a good win last week and will be looking to follow that up with another at Craven Cottage. The final match to kick off does so at Anfield where Liverpool take on Leeds United in what could be a fiery contest on and off the pitch given the intensity of the two coaches.
Betting
I like three bets over the course of the afternoon in the Premier League. The first of those is Brentford to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both these teams got done 4-0 last weekend but the Brentford one was both surprising and accountable in that they ran into Aston Villa at the wrong time when clearly their players had been playing to get Steven Gerrard the sack. Wolves have no such excuses in their defeat to Leicester City. They look like a wounded side and one which has absolutely no firepower to fight back with. If anything that defeat for Brentford will wise them up and remind them they always need to be on it and I expect a much better performance from them here. Given the lack of goals in this Wolves side this looks an ideal chance for Brentford to get back to winning ways.
The other two bets both come in the form of goals and they are the later two matches to kick off. The first of those is Fulham against Everton and I’ve said twice recently that this Fulham side are awful defensively. Everton are certainly improving going forward but as good as their defence has been it is going to be under constant pressure from an offense minded Fulham outfit. Fulham tend to concede a couple of goals a game at the minute and if Everton can add to that figure then you would imagine there is more than enough in the Fulham front line to get the 2.5 goals line in here, if we even need them to score.
The goal line in the later game between Liverpool and Leeds United is a notch higher at 3.5 but I still expect that to be covered. Leeds’ defence has been a shambles for a while but if anything it looks to be getting worse and Liverpool might have the bit between their teeth after going down to Nottingham Forest. Liverpool don’t look anything like the tight defence we’ve seen from them in the past this season so Leeds may well have plenty of success going forwards themselves. I think it is obvious that Leeds need to play well here and probably even get a result if Jesse Marsch is to stay in his job so he should have his team bang up for this one and that should lead to goals flowing here.
