The one game in the Super League on Saturday has massive implications for Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants when the two sides meet at Craven Park on Saturday afternoon.
The winners of the match will be guaranteed Super League status next season while the losers will head to the Million Pound Match next week against either Salford or London Broncos and will be under real pressure so this is a huge game.
Hull KR
Rovers head into this match off the back of two wins in a row but defeats in the qualifiers to Leigh Centurions and Leeds Rhinos have them under pressure to get the win here and having struggled in the big matches during the regular season they have plenty to prove in this one.
Although Hull KR have won their last two matches they haven’t really beaten anything and although nothing is clear on paper in this world you get the feeling they are going to have to up their game in what is a massive match for both sides.
Huddersfield Giants
Just like their opponents here Huddersfield have been hit and miss at best all season but they came good when they had to against Leeds last week and a repeat of that win will give them every chance here. Since the qualifiers began Huddersfield’s attack has been on fire with them putting up 40pts or more in four of their last five matches.
Only really once in that time has their defence been opened up at will and that was by a Leigh Centurions side who looked the real deal in that match. We saw most of last season how the Giants can rise to the big occasion when they needed to and they’ll be looking to call on that spirit here.
Team News
James Donaldson missed last week’s win for Hull KR but he is expected to be back for this match while Chris Clarkson has recovered from illness to be able to feature as well. Rovers are without Albert Kelly which could be crucial.
Huddersfield Giants have named the same squad which beat Leeds last week after the New Zealand international Sam Rapira was passed fit to play. Huddersfield have a plethora of big names to call on in this match.
Betting
This has all the makings of a match where the big names will shine and deliver for their side and there is no doubt in my mind that most of the bigger players play for the Huddersfield Giants. Hull KR are game opponents but in what is effectively do or die rugby I’m not sure they have the kicking game or the quality which will make life tough for them.
Over the last few matches we’ve seen Huddersfield really deliver in big matches and I just feel with Albert Kelly absent the Giants will dominate the territory and field position off the back of Brough’s kicking game and that can be the key to success.
