The second day of the Scottish Open sees the first round of the tournament concluded at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. As with the first day of the competition there are some big names on show on Tuesday which should make for a good day of snooker.
Monday saw wins for John Higgins, Judd Trump and Marco Fu among others and on Tuesday the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Jimmy White and Shaun Murphy will be looking to join them in the second round.
Morning Session
Once again we have eight matches to open the day. The two matches in front of the cameras see Ali Carter taking on the highly dangerous Thepchaiya Un-Nooh with Jimmy White facing David John on the other table.
The outside tables will be full of players with Gary Wilson playing Allan Taylor, Lee Walker meeting Joe Swail, Kritsanut Lertsattayatthorn plays Stuart Carrington while his Thai compatriot Boonyarit Kaettikun faces the Shootout champion Robin Hull. There is an all-Chinese battle between Wang Yuchen and Xiao Guodong and Yan Bingtao takes on Aditya Mehta.
Afternoon Session
The first set of matches in the afternoon has the big match of Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Matt Selt on the main TV table. The other streamed table will be occupied by Joe Perry and Adam Duffy which might actually be closer than the odds suggest.
Craig Steadman is one of many in action on the outside tables when he takes on Noppon Saengkham. Michael Georgiou plays Peter Lines while Nigel Bond and Chris Wakelin meet in a big match for the ranking of both men. Michael Wild and Ian Preece are both outside the top 100 in the world but one of them will earn some prize money when they meet each other. Jack Lisowski plays Hossein Vafaei Ayouri and Akani Songsermsawad meets Andrew Higginson in the other games.
The TV games in the second set of games sees Shaun Murphy taking on Zhao Xintong on the main table and Jak Jones playing the local man Graeme Dott on the other table in front of the cameras. Fergal O’Brien plays Brandon Sargeant and Rory McLeod faces Mark Davis away from the bright lights.
The final three afternoon matches see the English Open winner Liang Wenbo playing Darryl Hill on one match table with Jamie Cope facing Peter Ebdon and Anthony Hamilton meeting Fraser Patrick on the outside tables.
Evening Session
Neil Robertson and Thor Chuan Leong get the action on the main table underway with the other streamed table seeing Ross Muir facing Gareth Allen. Ryan Day is surprisingly on the outside tables when he plays Elliot Slessor and Paul Davison plays Mei Xiwen.
The action on the main table ends with Zhou Yuelong playing Stephen Maguire in front of the cameras with Robert Milkins taking on Dave Gilbert on the second table. James Cahill plays Adam Stefanow and Dominic Dale meets Chris Totten elsewhere.
Betting
There are a lot of one sided looking matches on the card on Tuesday but there are a couple where the odds are more level and I like bets in both of those. I’m also going to chance a complete outsider who might not be without a hope.
Jimmy White had two excellent wins to qualify for the German Masters last week and he is a favourite to see off David John. I think that is justified too. John is new to the tour but his results this season suggest he is struggling at this level and the confidence White will have had from last week to take into this one should be enough to see him through.
Michael Georgiou showed what he can do in the UK Championship a couple of weeks ago and I think he has the beating of Peter Lines. Had Lines not had that win over a disappointing Neil Robertson to open up the UK Championship I’ve got to think Georgiou would be a lot shorter than he is. Georgiou is a decent scorer and that scoring power can guide him through here.
Joe Perry labelled the state of his game as embarrassing on Twitter last week and that isn’t the reaction of a guy who is feeling good about things and with that being on Friday he hasn’t had much time to get to the practice table and put whatever is wrong right so he could be vulnerable here. Adam Duffy is erratic at the best of times but he can score when given the chances and at 11/2 he’s worth a dabble to see if he can take four chances to win this.
