The second day of action in the Scottish Open in Glasgow sees the first round of the tournament draw to a close. We saw some big names on show on the opening day and plenty more come to the party inside the Emirates Arena on Tuesday.
Monday saw wins for the likes of Marco Fu, John Higgins and Judd Trump but there was a defeat for Barry Hawkins and on Tuesday we will get the first look at Ronnie O’Sullivan, Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen, Neil Robertson and many more leading lights in another three session day of action.

Morning Session
The two main tables have a couple of decent looking matches on them in the morning session. Home star Alan McManus will be on one of them when he takes on the competent Matt Selt while Liang Wenbo faces Sanderson Lam on the other of them. Elsewhere Chris Wakelin will play Thor Chuan Leong, Niu Zhuang meets Wang Yuchen, Joe Swail will go up against Lukas Kleckers with Ian Burns taking on Tom Ford. The other two matches in the session see Allan Taylor facing Soheil Vahedi and Cao Yupeng playing Andrew Higginson.
Afternoon Session
Ronnie O’Sullivan is the star attraction in this session. The UK Championship winner faces a man he beat in the early stages in that tournament in Michael Georgiou. Ali Carter goes up against Anthony Hamilton in a repeat of the German Masters final from earlier in the year in the other match on the main table.
There will be a full complement of matches on the outside table in this first set of games. Ashill Hugill will face Ross Vallance on one while Robert Milkins takes on Oliver Lines on another. Leo Fernandez meets Hamza Akbar with Paul Davison facing Jimmy Robertson. Alfie Burden goes up against Ross Muir and Michael Holt has a battle with Robbie Williams.
The second set of matches will see the main tables occupied by Shaun Murphy and one of the men of the moment in Yan Bingtao. Murphy faces the Welsh challenge of Daniel Wells while it is up to Matthew Bolton to try and stop the Chinese star. The other games in this set of matches sees Ken Doherty facing Craig Steadman and Aditya Mehta playing Peter Ebdon.
The final two matches in the session which will be on the main tables if there is time sees Ding Junhui taking on Jak Jones and Kyren Wilson facing Chen Zhe. The other matches on the outside tables have Mark King playing Anda Zhang, Mei Xiwen playing Kurt Maflin and Eden Sharav playing Mark Davis.
Evening Session
Neil Robertson gets his tournament underway in this evening session but his match against Rod Lawler is only good enough for the streamed table. That is because home man Anthony McGill faces Ryan Day in the pick of the first round matches on the main table.
The outside tables will consist of Mark Joyce facing Martin O’Donnell, Matthew Stevens playing Hammad Miah, Jimmy White going up against Akani Songsermsawad and Rhys Clark meeting Elliot Slessor.
The last two matches of the day will both be on the main tables. On the TV table Mark Allen will face Ben Woollaston in what should be a tasty battle while Joe Perry meets Chen Zifan in the second match on the streamed table in the session.

Betting
After winning two out of three bets on Monday I’m going with three more on Tuesday and the first comes along in the morning session where I like Cao Yupeng to beat Andrew Higginson. Yupeng is going along nicely at the minute and it has taken Mark Selby and John Higgins to beat him in a couple of the events but even then he ran them close. Higginson is in the middle of one of those inconsistent spells where when he is good he is very good and when he is bad he can be very poor. Yupeng’s level is much more constant so I’m happy to take him.
The other two bets come along in the evening session. Ryan Day has a pretty decent record against Anthony McGill and the Scot has struggled a little bit since losing to Ronnie O’Sullivan in the semi-final of the English Open. He will be under pressure in his home event too. Ryan Day is carrying plenty of form into this tournament with him after a good run to the semi-final last week and his aggressive scoring coupled with his confidence makes him a bet here.
Elliot Slessor had a decent run in the Northern Ireland Open where he made the semi-finals and he looks to have a lovely draw in his bid to begin to emulate that success. He takes on a Rhys Clark who has only won one match all season and in truth hasn’t been competitive in many of the ones he has lost so his confidence must be low right now. Slessor didn’t do a huge amount wrong against Un-Nooh in the UK last week so he should still be on a high and I not only expect him to win here but to do it with a bit in hand.
