You could be forgiven for thinking the only racing action on Tuesday comes at Royal Ascot, but if you do allow yourself to think that you couldn’t be more wrong as no fewer than three meetings take place in the UK away from the Berkshire showpiece.
They go at Chelmsford City on the sand while there is an afternoon card at Thirsk and Windsor opens its doors to the jockeys and trainers in the evening to round off what looks a great day of action. We’re going with one in each of the turf meetings.

This is a low quality Class 6 handicap over a mile where Dreamseller is the current favourite of 10. He ran well on reappearance but is arguably better on the all-weather & has little room to manoeuvre off this mark. The Big House is probably more of a danger as his last win came off just 2lbs lower but he might prove better off a furlong less.
Betting
Instead, the selection is Smeaton from the trainer-jockey combination that did us a good turn at the weekend with Presidential. The horse is winless in 11 starts but he has bits of form to suggest that’ll all change here.
On debut a year ago, he was 7 lengths 5th behind horses now rated 106, 95, 88 & 73. When you consider our horse races off just 60 here, a repeat of that would be more than good enough here. Since then, he’s only been seen in this grade 3 times, finishing 2nd of 12 off 64, 6th of 10 off 63 where a stiff track over a mile and a quarter was too much & 2nd of 11 off this mark on heavy ground.
He doesn’t mind cut in the ground but he’s much better on ground around good or just on the easy side of good. With the trip, going, class & mark all appealing, this owner trained gelding looks primed to get off the mark for a jockey with a 17% strike rate since racing resumed.

Away from Ascot, this is a decent Class 3 handicap over 6 furlongs. The market is finding it hard to split this 11 runner field with Junior Brutus, Count Otto & Yimou all vying for favouritism.
Betting
However, our fancy is Chairmanoftheboard, a 4 year old who’s never quite fulfilled the potential of his debut. He does hold solid claims though judged on the back of a good reappearance when he was 6 lengths 3rd off 1lb higher at Newmarket. That day, there was a significant pace basis with the winner coasting to an easy victory although he’s gone on and franked the form by finishing 2nd in a Listed race since. Our selection was held up out the back, travelled eyecatchingly well, didn’t get the clearest of runs but ran on well to finish 3rd although he was no match for the winner.
He didn’t have a good year last year but it is evident sprint trips are more his thing. He’s been campaigned at 7 furlongs or a mile in all races bar his last one & debut where he beat the now 96 rated Sir Busker by fully 8 lengths. In fact, that run was so impressive that he went off favourite for the Group 3 Horris Hill won by leading Queen Anne fancy Mohaather.
The drop in trip as well as ground conditions & a draw next to the likely front runner could well see the selection get his career back on track now it’s been accepted his future lies in the sprint division.

WON – Back Chairmanoftheboard (e/w) for a 0.75/10 stake at 9.00 BetVictor BOG (1/5 odds 1-3)
