The final round of matches in the regular season of the MLS take place on Sunday night. We have all 22 sides in action and by the end of the night we will know the line up for the play-offs in both Conferences. It is also an evening where the game will say goodbye to two of its icons.
In truth there is not much to be determined over the course of the night apart from positional spots and the final place in the Western Conference but it does have the look of a relatively dramatic evening with all the games kicking off at the same time.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows:
Atlanta United vs Toronto FC
DC United vs New York Red Bulls
FC Dallas vs Los Angeles Galaxy
Houston Dynamo vs Chicago Fire
Montreal Impact vs New England Revolution
New York City vs Columbus Crew
Philadelphia Union vs Orlando City
Portland Timbers vs Vancouver Whitecaps
Real Salt Lake vs Sporting Kansas City
San Jose Earthquakes vs Minnesota United
Seattle Sounders vs Colorado Rapids

Big Matches
The big match of the night comes from Providence Park where the Portland Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps with top spot on the line. Portland are likely to miss out on the top two if they don’t win while the Whitecaps could miss out on the top two themselves if they lose. The other matches with big things on them are the ones between FC Dallas and Los Angeles Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes vs Minnesota United. Dallas need to better San Jose’s result to sneak into the final play-off spot.
Best of the Rest
Atlanta United against Toronto FC sees what many believe are the two best sides in the East taking each other on. New York City will claim the bye in second place if they can beat Columbus Crew but will surrender top spot if they lose. Chicago Fire would then claim it if they can avoid defeat in Houston.
Betting
This is not a round of matches to go too mad on with a lot of sides playing for little and with the play-offs beginning in midweek there may well be a number of team changes we have to encounter too.
One game where both sides should be going at it hard is the game in Oregon where the Portland Timbers go up against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Top spot is at stake here and I think the Timbers are in an excellent position to take it. I respect the Whitecaps but Portland are on such a roll at home at the minute. I would imagine Portland will win the game but Vancouver are incredibly dangerous on the break.
Given that both are in need of a result here I’m expecting to see a very open contest and one which contains plenty of goal action and converted chances.
