There is a midweek round of Premier League matches taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday with four matches to kick off the action. In truth there aren’t many issues to be developed on Tuesday with the baulk of the sides in the title, Champions League and relegation picture in action on Wednesday.
We do have a televised match which kicks off at 8pm which we will cover first and then three away from the live pictures in the UK which all kick off at 7.45pm which we’ll preview after.
Man Utd vs Everton
Jose Mourinho’s men look to finally get back to making Old Trafford a fortress when they host an Everton side who are likely to still be smarting from their defeat in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday.
United themselves had a poor result on Saturday when they were held at home by West Brom but they have Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back from suspension for this one which will be a boost. Aside from that both sides are riddled by injuries so nothing really stands out here although you would think United are worthy favourites.
Burnley vs Stoke City
I took on Stoke on the road on Saturday to good effect and I’m certainly going to do that again here when they head to a Burnley side who remain strong at home even allowing for defeat to Tottenham at Turf Moor at the weekend.
Since the opening weekend of the season only Arsenal, Man City and Spurs have left Turf Moor with three points so it takes a really good side to get a win there which is very much in the home side’s favour here.
Stoke remain a poor side on the road and while Burnley lost to Spurs they were well organised and made things very difficult for the title chasers for long periods. In this match they go up against a weaker defence and a much less dynamic attack so I fancy Burnley to get a win to ease any nerves which might be surfacing over relegation.
Leicester vs Sunderland
You would think it won’t be long before Sunderland’s fate is sealed in this season but they have earmarked this as a huge match and you have to take them on their word for that. Leicester are going along nicely now and this should be a routine win.
This is the sort of game that a side can take their eye off the ball in though especially with a Champions League quarter final coming up. I certainly couldn’t back Sunderland right now but eyes lingering elsewhere is enough of a reason for me to avoid backing the home side.
Watford vs West Brom
Two of the lower key sides in the division meet in what you would have to say is a bit of a nothing game at Vicarage Road when Watford host West Brom. Both sides are safely in mid-table and will be playing Premier League football next season.
Neither side are set up to go and play expansive against the other so there has to be a fear that this one could turn into a bit of a stalemate. I don’t expect West Brom to be quite as defensive as they were at Old Trafford but they won’t be all that attacking and Watford lack a spark to break tight sides down. This has a low scoring affair written all over it to me.
