The second week of the NFL season began in entertaining fashion on Thursday evening and we’ll be hoping for much more of the same on Sunday when the bulk of the week 2 matches are played out over the course of the night.
Teams who won last week will be eager to back that up here while those who failed to win last week will want to do so this week in order to avoid playing catch up. As ever there is TV coverage of two games while RedZone and Game Pass offer up ways to see the others.
1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)
There are ten matches in the first of the two normal kick off times on Sunday where the TV coverage comes from Indianapolis as the Indianapolis Colts host the Minnesota Vikings. Both teams lost last week so they’ll be eager to make up for that here. Elsewhere there are four divisional matchups. Green Bay Packers will go in search of a second win when they take on NFC North rivals Detroit Lions while the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills. Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look for their first win under Tom Brady when they host Carolina Panthers while two teams who won last week meet in the AFC South when the Tennessee Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars for top spot in the division.
The Chicago Bears play their first home match of the season on Sunday when they host the New York Giants while the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons go at it for their first wins of the year. The other three matches sees the New York Jets welcoming the San Francisco 49ers to the MetLife Stadium while Philadelphia Eagles host the LA Rams. The remaining match comes from Heinz Field as Pittsburgh Steelers host the Denver Broncos.
4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25om UK time)
There are three matches in the later section of matches with the televised offering coming from Houston as the Houston Texans look to take advantage of the long week when they welcome the powerful Baltimore Ravens to town. The other two games sees two sides who won last week playing each other when the Arizona Cardinals host the Washington Football Team and in the AFC West two teams who won last meet go at it in LA when the Los Angeles Chargers host the Kansas City Chiefs for the early leaders position.

Betting
Three bets stand out to me in these matches. In the early TV game I like over 48.5 points. The Minnesota Vikings defence got absolutely gashed by the Green Bay Packers last week and there is no obvious reason why the Indianapolis Colts won’t feast on it as well. The onus is going to be on Philip Rivers to carry the offense a little more now that Marlon Mack is out so I’m expecting plenty of passing from them. One thing Minnesota did show last week is that they can also pile up the points and between the two teams I expect this one to sail safely beyond the 48.5 point market before it is done.
Speaking of Green Bay Packers, they have got to feel confident about things when they welcome the Detroit Lions to the opening game of the season at Lambeau Field. Detroit on the other hand could be forgiven for being a little fearful. If they are surrendering a great position against Mitch Trubisky and the Chicago Bears they could be in for a beating from the Aaron Rodgers led Packers who just piled up yards for fun in Minnesota. On the back of that it is quite a surprise that the Packers are only having to give up six points here. I’ve got to think Green Bay cover that with a little bit to spare.
Later in the evening I expect the Kansas City Chiefs to continue their excellent form when they travel to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs looked strong before the season started and that was without seeing the quality that rookie Clyde Edwards-Hilaire brings to an already rampant offense. It is hard to see the Chargers containing that unit and although they have the ability to take time off the clock when they run the ball, Kansas City have had all week to prepare for that so I don’t expect that plan to work for long. This is another match where I’m surprised that the handicap is on the low side at 7.5. I expect the Chiefs to cover comfortably enough.
